deBortoli "Old Boys 21" Barrel Aged Tawny Review
This would be the first Tawny that I have reviewed for the site because at some point I have to draw the line otherwise I'll be on my 4th liver and 2nd set of kidneys. This isn't me asking for help but I would keep a hotline number handy.
This is an Australian Barrel Aged Tawny made in the style of a Port. This is what we would call a fortified wine or "wine for alcoholics who need a bit more pep in their step." Tawny fortified wine (OR PORT) gets its name from the color that gets imprinted upon it from the aging process in them barrels. Other names are rainbow ports, polka dotted ports and Chevron ports.
In da nose I got delightful jelly, sweet chocolate and fig spread. In da mouf I got blackberry jam and straight up syrup.
I must admit I've not been a big Port or fortified wine fan because I had some shitty stuff back in the day. I should know better but I was too busy getting sucked into other spirits to give this the time it deserved. This is pretty freaking good and at $50 from Australia - worth it.
