2013 Caduceus "Nagual de la Naga" Red Blend Review
I picked this up at one of my favorite stores, Longhorn Liquor in Beaumont, TX after a pretty baller event. This was just sitting over in the corner and I was shocked because this isn't the easiest wine to get your hands on.
Caduceus is owned by Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan over in Arizona. This is an interesting blend featuring Sangiovese, Cab and Merlot - A MEETING OF NEW AND OLD WORLDS, FRIENDS! I knew about Caduceus but I didn't know this blend - if I had paid attention I probably would have been a bit weary. I don't care for Sangiovese typically.
In da nose I got soil and minerals - a very gravely aroma going on. That's the Sangiovese coming outta its shell. In da mouf I got raspberry, black pepper and a finish of licorice. That rhymed!
I have to admit this was pretty solid even with the Sangiovese concentration. I have looked at other vintages and the Sangiovese content is much higher so I think this had a solid balance of Cab and Merlot. This is well worth the $45 and would be nice for an evening of naked hide and seek.
