2014 Silverado Cab Sauv Review

Review:

As mentioned here and here I am a huge fan of Silverado. In fact you can often find me on the weekends wearing nothing but the labels of my fallen Silverado Solos handing out pamphlets on how this fine wine can better your relationships and parenting capabilities. Unfortunately, as is common in the alcohol world, I should have worked my way up the quality chain and not down.

As soon as I opened the bottle I was assaulted with ethanol rushing out faster than a Black Friday shopper regretting their purchase of a $250 Vizio TV (75” only makes your poor purchase look poorer). I tried to let it air a bit but here we are at 1.5 hours after opening and it’s still overtaken by the alc. While fighting my way through the aroma like a Colorado theater patron I was finally able to get some oak - and by that I mean a shitload of oak. So much oak you could build something with that oak and then use that something.

In the mouf I got sour berries (different than tart) with a bitter, bolder-than-expected finish. After a few John Goldman gulps the bitterness faded a tad bit but all in all it was an average wine. For this reason I ran a sophisticated algorithm to determine it would receive a 2.5 / 5.

If you’re going to spend $25 I recommend you check out some of the other wines I have reviewed - there are some big winners for this price range. Sorry, Silverado - hope we can still be friends.
