2012 Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape Old Vine Review
This bottle is a physical representation of happiness - a Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Old Vine). This is one of the bottles that the Meg and I purchased on our wine buying extravaganza back in 2015 so figured an early anniversary opening was in order.
Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines are some of my absolute favorite - they are earthy, bold and dry blends (typically Grenache and Mourvedre from the ones I slurp on) that mesh with my flavor profile like a spoon meshes with Demi Lovato. Chateauneu-du-Pape is in northern France, just north of Avignon, and where God lives May - August. If you’ve never been to that part of the world please put it on your bucket list that will never get completed.
This particular wine is from Bosquet des Papes which is probably in my top 3 favorite wine producers. Every wine of every vintage I have ever had from them is just spectacular. The nose on this wine has some chocolate and chalkiness going on that melds into sweet raspberries, clay and peppery French sexiness on the taste. This is what wine should aspire to. If this wine was nominated to the Supreme Court and it was accused of something everyone would be like, “Naw chill this wine aight.”
While at this price point I imagine you’re not going to run out the house and go snag a case I do highly recommend you give this vintner and region a go one day when you’ve got the itch to be daring. This is what wine should be.
