Whitmeyer's Barrel Selection #4 Bourbon Review
My good buddy, and Bad Wine Reviews loyalist, Chris Francis let me stop by his abode and try this lil’ number out. He also has a Chow named Cooper and we hung out - did some scratches, ate some treats, etc. Dogs aside this is my first pass at a Whitmeyer's product so HERE WE GO!
Whitmeyer's is a Houston based distillery founded by two veterans hell bent on making good whiskey. One of the founders, Travis, announced a pretty badass charity move by dedicating 100% of his sales this month to Camp Hope (veteran organization). Another awesome thing is Travis, Chris and myself drank George T. Stagg (read my review here) old fashioneds because we don't give a shit.
So let's talk about this bottle. This was a special release a couple weeks ago while I was on vacation (of course) and was only available at the distillery. It was aged 14 months and comes in at 104 proof which means nothing to some of you. On the back is one of the defining sights of Houston - the "Be Someone" graffiti that adorns one of the bridges above I-10 downtown. If your city can be defined by graffiti you know you've made it...
In da nose I got wildflowers and lavender honey. Maybe bees got stuck in the booze and vomited everywhere. I didn't talk to their Quality Control officer but I'm going to spread this rumor. In da mouf I get cedar and chocolate covered raisins. It's got quite a bold mouthfeel for such a young bourbon which was surprising and sexually stimulating.
Overall I'm pretty pumped this was the first one I got to write about. The $70 price tag does make me squint slightly because that's pretty ballin' for a 14 month whiskey but it sold out immediately which means it was priced correctly - ECONOMICS, BITCHES!
