I.W. Harper 15 Year Bourbon Review
What we have here is a really pretty bottle and that's about it. This is one of those liquors that you oh so want to be amazing but suck you in with marketing and packaging. Read on to discover more!
This bourbon was passed around like a French whore by Benjamin Franklin. It was distilled in the New Bernheim distillery, aged at Stitzel-Weller and then bottled in Tennessee by Diageo. This is all you need to know right now. Keep going.
This comes in at a pretty low proof of 86 which means it's thin as hell, lacking a sexual mouthfeel and is not going to have that well-balanced fruit to nutty to earthy to oaky goodness that higher proof whiskies tend to have. See the lil' guy on the front? You think he's trying to tip his hat but instead he's trying to see where all the alcohol went.
In da nose I get citrusey things and fig newtons. The nose is actually pretty solid and initially I thought I was going to get a nice surprise in da mouf. HOWEVER in da mouf I got pleather (yes, faux leather), some less-than-adequate Breyer's vanilla followed by a tangy-sour finish.
While it's pretty difficult to find a 15 year bourbon at this price I think the people selling it know they absolutely cannot sell it for more. It lacks the requirements to be considered a big-boy bourbon and should only be served to minors in garages.
