Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch #12 Bourbon Review
Bad Wine Reviews loyalist and gun control advocate Chris O'Mara let me try this and then take a sample home while talking about the dangers of unloaded weapons sitting in a safe. This is the 12th installment of the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (ECBP) series and I'm more giddy than Elizabeth Warren at an Indians game.
The recent releases of ECBP have been ok (outside of the beautiful A119) but as you move back in time, especially to these old labels, you get a completely different profile. This one comes in at 136 proof at 12 years old (as are all of them). See in the scotch world I'd make a joke about not the only XYZ age I've had my mouth on but you can't do that in the bourbon world because very few things are over 18 and you'll go to jail.
In da nose I got lavender and clove that high fived and the force of their five became this beautiful chocolate mousse. In da mouf I got pretty strong mint and caramel followed by a finish of chocolate covered raisins.
This was outstanding and a very unique expression you just can't seem to find in bourbon nowadays. *shakes cane at young people and spits tobackey into a brass jar. If you can get your stinkin' mitts on some of these old label ECBP you best get at it, son.
