Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch #1 (134.2 Proof) Bourbon Review
The last of the “chillen with Allen” bottles that I have had the pleasure of reviewing - and this was a doozy. I've always had a love-hate relationship with Elijah Craig because it's one of those products that is all over the place - like Paul Walker.
This is the first barrel proof release from Elijah Craig (2013) coming in at 134.2 proof which will getcha if you're not careful. Don't ask how I know. As you can see the labels are a bit different than today's offering and the consensus from the bourbon community is the juice in these far outperform today's swill. I still get wildly overtaken by the demon either way so 6-1, half dozen to me, yo.
In da nose I got rich people caramel, espresso and the aroma of walking into a humidor. In da mouf I got a s'more - chocolate, toasted marshmallow and graham crackers. This is a dessert in a glass and you don't want to put it down but you should because otherwise you'll overthrow the Chilean government.
People are absolutely right that this (these) is far better than the recent expressions of barrel proof. I can see why people pay stupid amounts of money for these bottles - I mean I can't because I'm too busy settling in court for bashing celebrities on my blog constantly. Anyway this was perfection and I can't thank Allen enough for sharing such a prize with us.
