2016 Ron Yates Sangiovese Review
Our new friends brought this over to the house to try because we're all a bunch of adults who need the sweet release of alcohol to function appropriately in society. Or they were being polite like normal humans. I don't know.
This wine hails from TEXAS WINE COUNTRY as part of the Ron Yates winery. I have not been to this place but I assume they serve cheese. This is the first Texas Sangiovese I've had and it's a very interesting grape to play with here because of the heat. It requires JUST ENOUGH heat to ripen but too much and it turns into a middle school girl who just got her period.
In da nose I got herbs and grapefruit. Sangiovese always has a medicinal smell to me and this one takes it up a notch. In da mouf I get tart raspberries and figs.
Sangiovese just isn't my cup of tea - I've had it from Tuscany and even there it just didn't speak to me as some other grape varieties. I think Sangiovese is a tough grape to grow in Texas but I applaud them for trying.
