2016 Marchesi di Barolo Barbera D'Alba "Ruvei" Review
The wonderful thing about the Piemonte region is you don't have to spend a lot of money to get top-of-the-line wine. You can poke into some small operation, buy some 5 Euro wine and enjoy the hell out of it with the young Croatian girl you picked up along the way. What a night!
Marchesi di Barolo has some of the oldest cellars around the area dating back more than 200 years. It's a pretty amazing sight to behold and you'd better not wear tight pants when touring. This Barbera D'Alba is a blend of 85% Barbera and 15% Nebbiolo. It's a good thing too because it has to be 85% Barbera to get that designation - woo!
In da nose I got cocoa and soil. Pretty standard operation there, folks - I'm shocked I'm not a sommelier. In da mouf I got blueberry and cherry. This is not surprising as these wines are known for their cherry notes. So another historical win for me.
This is a great wine that isn't wildly complex and is made for drinking. Drinking a lot of it. If you haven't got into the Barbera D'Alba world please get on it, soon.
