High West "A Midwinter Nights Dram" Act 7 Rye Review
I’ve heard good things about this particular bottle after a couple previous years of absolute dogshit following years of high praise. Luckily for all of you I'm going to stick muh nose and mouth all over this thing so you don't have to.
High West is a distillery / sourcer in Utah and this is their premier annual release. While the name is unnecessary I do enjoy the packaging and fun way of announcing the batches. I also love the rumor mill because I've heard everything from this is mostly their distillate to it has very little of their distillate in it. SO WHICH IS IT YOU MORMON, PLATE READING FUCKS?! Anyway, this rye is finished in French Oak Port barrels and comes in at 98.6 proof. They don't release the age statement because they are fucking cowards (allegedly up to 19 year MGP rye).
In da nose I got cherry, clove and honeysuckle in a very wonderful aroma taco. The nose never went away and stayed strong throughout the mouth stuff. In da mouf I got warm cinnamon and chocolate cake up front followed by a deliciously refreshing minty finish.
This was incredible and a complete turnaround from the spiral-death that was Act 6. I have predicted this would win Whiskey of the Year and if I'm right you better fucking bow to me and make me your whiskey lord. Great bottle so snatch them up and hoard forever.
