Lheraud Grand Champagne 1950 Vintage Cognac Review
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new top dawg as of February 2, 2019 in the Bad Wine Reviews ranking kingdom. This is without a doubt one of the best spirits I've ever had and if you ever have a chance to try any of their Cognacs or Armagnacs you need to do whatever sleazy thing required to do so.
I won't bore you too much with stories of years past but the Lheraud family has maintained ownership of the grounds since its inception (over 200 years old). It actually wasn't until the 1970s when they actually started selling under the Lheraud name. Also, the grounds are beyond incredible. They have Cognac from the early 1800s sitting around which to be honest I would probably sell a kid or two to have - can you imagine? Having drinkable Cognac that was distilled when Napoleon was running around being all short? Boner.
I would characterize this wine as classic, memorable, other-worldly, etc. This is something special that should be enjoyed with great company and never with a douchebag. I can remember the first time I had it and damn near every other time - it is that monumental. This particular Cognac was distilled in 1950 and bottled in 2015 - 65 years old! That's like drinking your grandma if your grandma was a delicious treat.
In da nostrils I got hazelnut and glazed pecans and it fills your entire body with the smell. No joke it fills your lungs as you dump your nose in. On da palate I get crème brûlée and toffee that envelop your mouth with a velvety and buttery experience that causes you to make unclean sounds. The finish lingers for several minutes and you can taste the entire experience just by breathing out.
I hope you all get to experience something like this once in your life. If not, your life is a lie.
