Eagle Rare "Gibby's Bottle Shop" Store Pick Bourbon Review
This would be the third store pick I’ve reviewed from my good buddy Caleb and his store, Gibby's Bottle Shop, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. I've said it before and I'll say it a few more times - GO VISIT HIS STORE FUH REAL!
This is actually the first Eagle Rare store pick I've tried, and reviewed, and so I was interested to see how it compared to the regular version. Honestly I think Eagle Rare is overrated - at least these fanboys (you fanboys) have made it overrated. When it was just sitting on the shelf as a reliable $35 go-to bourbon and you didn't have to sniff behind counters like a horndog life was better. Life was better.
Alright, here we go. At first I thought the nose was a bit harsh straight out of the bottle so I gave it a moment to reflect, go to the sauna and shower up. After this it mellowed out and I got black licorice, lemon mint (YES, FUCKING LEMON MINT) and chocolate. It had a much more complex nose that I'd like to admit and I don't admit to shit. In da mouf I immediately got raisins followed by toasted marshmallow and them damn Werther's candy in ya Gram-Gram's dish bowl. The mouthfeel seemed a bit more oily than 90 proof but the finish brought this bitch back to reality as it quickly faded.
As I mentioned this is the third pick from Gibby's I've done and I think this one fits into a nice second place. Overall this is a great bottle at $35 that differs nicely from the average on-the-shelf pickup. It's hard to find a $35 store pick nowadays without having to do humiliating mouth stuff. If you get the opportunity - pick her up!
