2017 Honig Sauvignon Blanc Review

Review:

As I'm sure you're all aware, because you follow every aspect of this website, I reviewed the Honig Cabernet Sauvignon last week and I thought it was a damn solid wine. I'm a creature of habit so I wanted to stay in the family and give this white cousin of the cab-sauv a go.

I find it far more difficult to rate and describe white wines because believe it or not they can be quite complex and appeal so wildly to different palates. They can take on such an array of flavors and smells that it makes pinpointing whether it leans more floral, fruity or nutty a challenge for me. For the most part when tasting red wines you can swirl the glass, make a boastful grunt and sputter out something about black currants and dark fruits and the crowd around you will probably nod in approval and wonderment.

Another interesting thing about white wine is most people think you need to serve it chilled HOWEVER white wine can be served at varying temperatures. This wine came out of the wine fridge at a brisk 50 degrees which tends to be the high end of Sauvignon Blanc's range. My personal preference is to let the wine warm just slightly but I thought this particular one was best right out da fridge.

On the nose I got honey and citrus aromas and the taste followed with PEACHESSSS MANG! The wine was quite tasty but a little too fruity for me but on these HOT ASS HOUSTON days it's kind of refreshing. This is actually the perfect wine to drink too much of at a yard party and yell at someone else's kid about staying the hell out of your flower bed.

The price is quite right for this wine and once again I'm pretty happy with the Honig family - go pick you up a bottle. Don't let the rating deter you - that's the rating of my personal preference but as I explained that's what this is all about.
