Old Forester Single Barrel - Gibby's Bottle Shop Pick Review
I made another visit to my favorite store in South Carolina - Gibby's Bottle Shop in Orangeburg, SC where the owner, Caleb, has amassed an amazing selection of booze for your perusing and purchase. Among this selection is quite a few store picks that I had the opportunity to sample with him as we discussed booze, raunchy hoes and the impact of maple syrup on the fluidity of the global economy. My favorite of the day, by far, is this here Old Forester Single Barrel.
Caleb absolutely hit a home run with this bottle. To compare, we tried two other OF store picks by two garbage South Carolina beverage outposts and they were pure taint. I reviewed Caleb's Whistlepig Old World Cask Rye pick which you can find here and this one, at a much lower price, is far superior.
The nose is full of gingerbread, cocoa and a delightful Cognac-reminiscient odor that makes my pants 1.5" tighter. On the palate I get coffee that you've done up with milk/creamer and some sugar along with a delightful mint on the long lasting finish. There is absolutely no bite here much like a Drake lyric. The only thing this bottle is missing to push it into a 4 region is a more robust mouthfeel as this one is slightly thin but that is to be expected with this a bourbon of this age.
If you are a poon and are caught up in chasing the allocated bottles I feel sorry for you. Bottles like this at $34 are a freaking steal. If you want one please get in touch with me via my contact page or reach out to Caleb Gibson to work something out. I highly recommend this as this is one of the best store picks I've ever had.
