Review:

I’ve passed this bottle several times in various liquor stores and finally bit on it today - basically what you have here is a blended Bourbon whisky creation from William Grant & Sons who happen to make one of my favorite daily drinkers - Monkey Shoulder! Fun story about Monkey Shoulder - I drank WAY too much of it one time at a baby shower and had to keep it together while people ate cake and pretended to ooh and ahh over those in the shower.

This is a 90 proof blend of five different whiskies initially released to just Texas and will then soon spreading out to the rest of these fine United States. It’s being released to Texas first because we most likely bribed them with our sweet, sweet oil money.

As many enthusiasts (alcoholics) will tell you people are always weary of a new product when it hits the market but at $25 it’s hard not to give this a try. I picked this up at Liquor Hut off HWY 146 in Mont Belvieu - I’ve posted about them before - wonderful people and if you are in the area do yourself a favor and stop in. Don’t try to rob them though because this is Texas and they will probably murder you.

So let’s talk about this in ya nose and mouth. As soon as I got the cork out a very strong scent immediately filled the air - you never really know how that’s going to go when it’s that strong. Sometimes it’s heaven and other times you’re trying to hold back vomit. In this case it was very nice - on the nose I get strong toffee notes and that’s all I can smell. I’m sure there is something like creme brûlée and moose knuckle but I’m not refined.

Upon tasting it I was getting some clove taste and believe it or not a little lemon which was refreshing. Because I have DEEP ROOTED self esteem issues I feel the need to mention that the mouthfeel was lacking which is why I mentioned in the summary up thur that it was absent of complexity. Once you took a sip and swallowed that was it. Additionally, there is a pretty warm feel with it allllll the way down so if you’re new to this game you may want to add some water. Other than that I thought it was lovely.

If you peasants get it outside of Texas be sure and snatch you up a bottle and I promise you will not be disappointed. I’m going to smuggle some samples out east to friends and family come the holidays so we’ll see what they say.

Also it’s Iron Bowl week so Fuck Bama forever. WDE
