2014 Tuck Beckstoffer Melee Grenache Review
I've had some meh wines lately so I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this silly labeled, straw banning Californian brawl wine but it's got me feeling good and pretty generous.
This wine comes from a small, unknown area of California called Napa (pronounced NAH-PUH) - particularly Oakville. While you would assume that Tuck Beckstoffer would be an un-hyphenated merger of two self indulging west coasters talking about the need for peace in their multi-million dollar estate you would assume wrong. It's a guy who makes wine - good wine.
The nose on this bad boy has me smelling apples. Not crazy sweet just bit into an apple pie taste but more of a my wife made me go to an apple orchard for pictures and this sweater is super itchy and THE GAME IS ON BUT LOL GUESS WE NEED MORE PICTURES taste - calm and delightful.
I tried the aerating in my glass method (the one where I drink it immediately) and I'm sure glad I did. This is the type of wine, in all seriousness, that benefits from the aerating in a glass method because it was nice experiencing the evolution of the wine as it opened up. It started with mellow fruit tones then slowly blossomed into strong earth/soil notes which makes Darryl excited. As I've chased my kids around the fruit notes were woken up and it just turned into a damn fine wine.
I'm honestly shocked at the $30 tag and maybe some high store rep coded the wrong amount - this drinks like a $40-50 bottle for 100%. You could drink this with some Pop Secret popcorn and you would literally have a great night.
