2014 Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Review
My homies at Wine Spectator gave this wine a 90 and IF Y'ALL WATCHED MY HOW TO PICK WINE EPISODE you would know I stepped out of my zone a bit to purchase this one at $40. The reason for that is HEB was offering a special on cabs so I took a chance.
This is one of those times LIKE I MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO where there are hidden gems ranked too low. This wine drinks better than a 90 but as I mentioned consistency, when trying new wines, is key.
This is a dry, oakey cab (THE ONLY KIND OF CAB THAT SHOULD EXIST) with dark cherry notes that do not take away from the earthy tones. The finish was slightly bitter and reminded me of fresh ginger which is not my fav but it definitely did not distract.
I would enjoy this wine with a nice steak, some lamb or a hearty tomato based pasta. This isn't the wine to waste on a drunken email - more like an update your resume angrily kind of bottle.
If the price is right - pick it up. You won't be disappointed.
