2009 Breganze Torcolato Review
So I'm going to go in a different direction tonight and talk about a dessert wine. It is derived from a lesser known - but one of my favorite - grapes, vespaiola. The vespaiola grape is primarily used in the Veneto area of Italy (northeast) - coincidentally where 25% of this hot bod is from.
To break it down even further a Torcolato is a sweet, dessert wine that is from Breganze (a small town within the Veneto area). This particular Torcolato is sweet but not squint so hard your forehead collapses sweet. No whu ahm sayin?
Our dear friend, Kate made a ginger pineapple cake and this wine paired perfectly. The nose has strong hints of apricots and dried fruits. The palate has a creme brulee taste that is a nice balance of sweet and some word that isn't sweet but isn't savory. You'll find yourself wanting to drink a lot but when it comes to dessert wines less is always moar.
I highly recommend trying this Torcolato with any fruit style cakes or pastries. You won't be disappointed.
