1st Bad Wine Reviews Wine Tasting On December 1st, 2018 Bad Wine Reviews (BWR) kicked off the first wine tasting event where 10 guests got together to try 9 different wines. This was a blind tasting that included 2 rosés, 2 whites and 5 reds and challenged the attendees to match each wine to a description card. There were cheeses, some honey and other snacks that tricked folks into thinking BWR knows what’s going on. What we tried to focus on is being open to trying different types of wine that exhibit different flavor profiles, textures and price ranges. For this tasting the wines had a price range of $6 - $22 and funny enough the top three most enjoyed wines were $19, $8 and $6. Sadly one of my favorite wines seemed to piss people off and they thought about burning my house down. As with most wine tastings the evening started fancy with pinkies up, picking at the cheeses with toothpicks and talking softly about the wine and its characteristics. Flash forward a couple hours and we’re picking up hummus with our hands, funneling pinot grigio through a breadstick and hugging like we’re lifelong friends. That’s what a wine tasting should be - good food, good wine and good friends. There was even a celebratory 2 am Taco Bell run so I feel pretty good about things. Before we started ripping the drywall down we did actually crown a winner who matched the most cards correctly and he took home a 2010 Colpetrone Sagrantino (read my review here) as his pompous wine prize - he scored 6/9 correctly and would have most certainly destroyed me. If you’re interested here are the wines that we tried: 1) 2017 Whispering Angel rosé 2) 2017 Gerard Bertrand Cote des Roses rosé 3) 2017 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Grigio 4) 2016 Chateau Ste. Michelle Sauvignon Blanc 5) 2017 Robert Mondavi Cab Sauv (Bourbon Barrel aged) 6) 2015 Plush Red Blend 7) 2015 A to Z Wineworks Pinot Noir 8) 2015 Norton Privada Red Blend (I have reviewed on here) 9) 2016 Daou Cab Sauv (I have reviewed on here)Aside from drinking way too much my favorite part was that a few people made mention of not liking certain wines prior to the evening but really enjoyed XYZ type. That’s what this is all about - trying new things that may possibly lead you to a divorce and then becoming a sky diving instructor. What I’m most proud of is that everyone wanted to do it again - success! The next few tastings will focus on one type / region of wine to help people begin making better decisions when jumping off that cliff. If you are interested in attending please join the Facebook group and watch for the next event announcement. Darryl BowmanDecember 2, 20182 Comments 0 Likes
