2015 Don Melchor Cabernet Sauvignon Review
I picked up a Don Melchor Cabernet a few years back in one of those zany wine sales at Kroger where you buy 7 wines and some underwear and you get 25% off and it instantly became one of my favorite wines. Every vintage I've ever had is excellent and I keep going back like Ray Rice's wife.
There's some really interesting history on this wine and the folks involved. But I know you don't really care about that. Instead if you ever want to talk about this wine you can say something overly pompous like, "Oh yeah, Rafael Guilisasti traveled to Bordeaux to get Professor Emile Peynaud's opinion on what they've done with their cabernet and Emile was overly impressed!" You'll be the life of the party with that gem, I promise!
I let this wine aerate for about 1.5 hours because I'm not a neandarthal. It probably could have used a little more time but I did not time my steak well and it was a whole thing. In da nose it was incredibly fruity (like blackberries and plums) but gradually came off into nice soil / dirt notes. Amazing.
On da palate it was very thick (not jammy) with ripe tannins that paired beautifully with that tomahawk you see there in them color pictures. It had deep earth notes like tobacco and some pepper wrapped in BACON! Jk - wrapped in figs.
So obviously the price is high on this wine and unless you are in the underground NBA wine club I doubt you're buying cases of the stuff. If you're in the mood to take your lady / MA'AM / man out or treat them to some treats and want to have a badass wine with said event then look no further. You will not be disappointed unlike Saints fans.
