2010 Socre Barbaresco Review
Review:
My family met the owner of Socré several years back and since that time we've become good friends with them. One of my favorite things about this guy is he openly flaunts his side piece (woman) at the winery and his older wife is like weirdly cool with it. I mean you have to kinda give him props for not caring.
Socré produces two Barbarescos - this one and the Roncaglie. Roncaglie is considered the better "cru" or vineyards in the Barbaresco / Barbera growing areas - all within the Piemonte region of Italy. I tend to prefer his Roncaglie.
While I bathe in most things Barbaresco and Barolo I wasn't wild about this one. The nose seemed sour but not like it was bad - ya know, bad would be Christina Aguilera after a concert. This was oakey and almost had a pickle scent to it. The wine was fine and was not corked. In da mouf, the oak came out in force which is something I love with this type of wine but it was a little overpowering. There were nice goat berry notes and the tannins were bold which is what makes me tingle. The finish was sour to the point that it made the front not worth it.There are way better Barbarescos out there so unless you just really like side pieces I think you should check some others out.
