2009 Nice Wines Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon Review
Look, y'all know I love me some Nice Wines. I love their products and I love what they do. They're great people and the fact they're stomping faces in Texas just makes me love them even more. I must say though that their signature Cabernet, while good, is not one of my personal favorites.
Normally when wineries are shoving out a large variety of wines it means they don't do anything really well. It's like at work there's that guy that you never really know what he does but he's at every meeting. However, Nice Wines is the exception to the rule. They are very well rounded and everything they put out is of the utmost quality - which is why my heart hurts that I don't love this wine.
In da nostrils, I get blackberries and plums. In da mouf, I get dark cherries and a thick-ass jam band man.
This is the reason I'm not wild about this wine (you can read about this in multiple other posts) - jammy and wildly fruit heavy. Some people absolutely love that about a wine (especially a Cabernet) but it's just not my thing. It's another one of those wines that I know it's good, I know it's good quality, I'm probably supposed to like it but it's just not for me. And that's ok.
That being said, I still gave it a 3.73/5 which is really good. If I hated it I'd have given it a 1 and thrown it in the neighbor's yard. I have several vintages of this exact wine and I'm hoping I stumble on the year that says, "HEY DARRYL I'M EARTHY AND SPICY AND YOU SHOULD PLAY THROW SOME SUGAR ON ME AND CHUCK DOLLARS ON ME" - that'll be nice.
