2017 Count Karolyi Gruner Veltliner Review
I normally roll my eyes at wines outside of the major producing nations but I'm trying to be more "open minded" which is a waste of time but whatever. My wife brought this home from one of her I BOUGHT A BUNCH OF STUFF AT TOTAL WINE WANNA SEE sprees. God, I love her.
Grüner Veltliner is a white grape that is primarily grown in Austria, Hungary and Czech Republic. FACT TIME - it is the most grown grape in Austria! How fun! Another fun fact - Austria is really bad at picking teams in World Wars. This particular vintner hails from Hungary where the wine is harvested and processed in cold temperatures to make it crisp as HELL, y'all!
In da nose I got lemon and rose (floral). The nose had a very crisp sensation to it which is something I always look for in my white wines. In da mouf I got apricot followed by a little peach.
This is a very refreshing wine and something a little different than your normal Pinot Grigio to calm your nerves before telling your husband you are pregnant. I paired it with some stuffed quail and I was happy with the result. A must try!
