Review:

I’m what you could call a Don Melwhore because I love everything I have ever tried from this place. You can read up on my review of the 2015 and some history of the this vinter here.

I let this wine aerate for 2 hours giving it a good what for every 20-30 minutes to ensure it was ready to go. While it was getting all oxidized I contemplated shaving my naughty bits into a heart.

In da nose it was a fruit bomb - blackberry jam all day long followed by some tamer scents of soil, salt and gravel. This is typical of Don Melchor and then you take a sip where it has a spicy, rich flavor and a dominant mouthfeel. Not so much here. In da mouf I get more blackberry but in cobbler form and a hint of smoke - almost like smoked meats. This one was really fruity compared to some of the other vintages I've fallen in love with.

At this price try to find you a different vintage - 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016 are all fantastic - bottles I've had. This is still a very good wine but it fails to live up to its older brother...and younger brother...and step brother.
