High West A Midwinter Nights Dram Act 6 Rye Whiskey Review
It is a known fact I’m not a big High West fan - I just haven't had many things that make my jinglies tingle ya know? I've tasted through most of their line at one time or another and not for me - I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam. This one however...well...just read on.
High West is a distillery from Utah - I know surprising right? Those damn Mormons and their nice ways probably went over and welcomed them with cookies and shit. Anyway High West has done a good bit of sourcing and distilling and that's exactly what you have here. You have a blend of straight rye whiskeys and some of their own shit dumped into charred American oak barrels for aging and then finished in some French Port barrels. That last bit o' finishing doesn't allow this bitch to be called a straight rye whiskey but, technicalities aside, she's a rye. Pssttt - this is their Rendezvous rye that they spruce up a bit shhhhhhhh.
In da nose I got a wonderful combination of wildflowers, honey and peaches. The nose was extremely expressive and filled up the olfactory system without making your eyes and brain water. In da mouf I got a no shit latte followed by some butter cream on the finish. I have to say this one wasn't bad, y'all. I really enjoyed it. To be fair I've had earlier versions of the MWND that I really enjoyed more than this one so I WAS FIBBIN' Y'ALL A BIT ON NOT LIKING IT ALL LMAOOOOO! $100 for this isn't totally outrageous but I prefer going down the road and trying it for like $10 when I get da itch.
