Review:

The ol’ Longhorn Liquor is droppin’ store picks like Ray Rice is droppin'...umm...mics. Or something. Anywho, I acquired this release a tad early so I could pour it into an atmospheric container and do weird things to it with my mouth. Read on to find out how I felt about it.

This is my second Buffalo Trace store pick to evaluate so I'm not an expert on what the general profile tends to be. This is the standard bourbon they release at a WHOPPING 90 proof so you're hoping for either a burst of sensual fruit, earth and rich flavors or enough spice to compensate for the lack of THICCC ASS. I'm not sure where this one went.

In da nose I got a bump of hazelnut initially followed by the ol' reliable brown sugar. What was very pleasant is if you sniffed hard enough you could find a very nice orange scent hiding betweenkst the standard bourbaromas (trademark pending). I did quite enjoy the nose. In da mouf I got some vanilla bean, mild herbs with a finish of plum that seemed to fade relatively quick.

Overall I think this is an average to slightly better than average bottle. I think the nose is very rewarding but the back of the palate to the finish fizzled. To be fair this 90 proof release followed one of the best Eagle Rare picks (also Longhorn) I have ever had so when you compare the $10 less liquid in this bottle to that you're not close. However it is damn near impossible to find a $25 store pick so if you're looking for a reliable bourbon that will give you something unique - look no further.
